Railway Division Lecture: Paris Metro Line 1 Driverless Trains

21 October 2013

Paris Metro Line 1, A Story of Migration to Driverless Operation

November 2011: The very first driverless passenger train is launched on the Paris Metro Line, 111 years after its inauguration. A complete fleet of 49 driverless trains now runs which confirms both the human and technical success of the experience.

This talk detailed the challenges that were faced from a technical perspective. Focusing on train control systems that have been specifically developed, the presentation will expose the details of the migration programme that allowed the transformation of this "old lady", towards one of the most modern infrastructures, while never interrupting passenger service.
