Working to make solar energy a more affordable option

13 April 2011

To become a successful and sustainable energy alternative, the solar industry is focused on driving down its cost per kilowatt hourby pursuing multiple, interwoven tracks. These include a stable feedstock; advanced raw materials that improve the long-term performance of solar modules; and stable, transparent and easy-to-implement Government policies, educational support and workforce development.

Dow Corning is researching and developing silicon-based materials that help achieve these goals by improving the capture and conversion of photons into electricity and also protect solar panels and components. In addition, Dow Corning, and its joint ventures at the Hemlock Semiconductor Group, have invested over US$5 billion in the last five years to develop solar materials, manufacturing capacity and technology.
