Railway Division Chairman's Address: Making the most of what we have…

This year’s address will focus on identifying the positives out of a slow economy, and making the most of existing assets. The economy is struggling; the supply chain uncertain and some assets could remain in service much longer than some had anticipated. Energy & commodity pricing is increasing, and globalisation has resulted in some surprising effects. This presents opportunities and challenges that industry professionals and particularly engineers can influence to good effect.

Tim is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers having joined the rail industry as a Technical Apprentice in 1977.



Following a series of appointments in rolling stock maintenance depots throughout the UK, he joined Angel Trains in July 1995 to head up a new projects section within the Engineering Department and was appointed Engineering Director and Board member in 2002.



In 2007 he became Group Engineering Director, with responsibility for engineering matters in both the UK and International businesses. Tim is a Non-Executive Director of the Railway Safety & Standards Board, and represents the UK rolling stock lessors Tim was appointed to the position of Chief Operating Officer of Angel Trains Limited in August 2009, and became Chairman of the Railway Division of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in June 2010.
