Delivering a Gold Medal Project - Building the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games
Management Challenge Lecture

24 March 2010

Since the start of construction three years ago, the largest construction site in Europe is now well under way. The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Park has been cleaned up, more than 20 new bridges erected, tens of miles of new utilities laid, new roads built, and seven new sporting venues are actively under construction. The project remains on time and on budget.

London 2012 is a challenging project. It has an absolute finish date, an immovable budget, technical challenges, organisational complexities, and is facing intense scrutiny from a range of stakeholders. To meet these demands and achieve success, the Olympic Delivery Authority has adopted a comprehensive programme management approach, focused on realising a set of declared outcomes, managing risks, building capacity, and broadly applying lessons learnt and best practice across all operations.
