S Stock - A New Train for London's Sub-Surface Railway

The presentation outlines the key features of the S Stock design, in particular the innovative features being introduced onto London's Sub-Surface Railway. These will be addressed from both customer and supplier viewpoints, focusing on how innovation was driven both by customer needs and by available technologies. The resultant design features and key challenges will be described, together with how they have been addressed by the customer and supplier working in partnership.

Meet the Speakers

Geoff Bolton has 23 years experience of Rolling Stock engineering with London Underground and Metronet. Geoff has worked on both the Central Line and Northern Line project teams with London Underground. For the Central Line project he was seconded to the supplier where he designed part of the control electronics. Geoff has also worked on smaller projects to install low power static converters on existing rolling stock to power cab air conditioning units. Since 2005 he has been the Project Engineer for the new London Underground S Stock.

Sean Turner Sean has worked in the rail industry for over 17 years. He started his career working in the rolling stock engineering team for LU on the Central Line and Northern Line Modernisation Projects. Sean then moved to Singapore and joined the Land Transport Authority of Singapore. Subsequent to this he moved to Australia and worked for Interfleet Technology. In 2005 he joined Bombardier Transportation in Derby and is currently the Head of Engineering for the SSL rolling stock project.
